THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA Talks on the Steps

Join us in the McCrary Theatre lobby for Talks on the Steps before performances of The Light in the Piazza, a romantic 2003 musical by Craig Lucas and Adam Guettel about a young American woman’s coming-of-age in mid-century Italy. Each Talk on the Step explores Elon Performing Arts’ production of the musical from a distinct point of view. Speakers include:

Thursday February 11 at 7pm: Dr. Evan Gatti of the Department of Art and Art History will explain and question “the romance of Florence” as a tourist destination

Saturday February 13 at 7pm: Assistant Director Hayley McCormick and Assistant Musical Director Michael Schimmele, both Music Theatre majors, will discuss the challenges of Guettel’s musical score and the role of the understudy in this production

Sunday February 14 at 1:30pm: Dr. Samuele Pardini of the Department of World Languages and Cultures will explore representations of Italy and the Italian language in literature, film, and theatre

Talks on the Step are free and open to the public. No ticket required!

The Light in the Piazza is written by Craig Lucas and Adam Guettel, and Elon’s production is directed and choreographed by Linda Sabo with Music Direction by Nathan Thomas.
