Dr. Andrea Sinn, who teaches in Elon’s Department of History and Geography, explains the history of anti-Judaism and anti-Semitism in her Talk on the Steps for Parade, 28 November 2016 at the McCrary Theatre. She explained the historical roots of anti-Judaism in the early Christian Church, and how modern anti-Semitism began in the nineteenth century with the rise of equal rights legislation in the modern nation-state. She concluded her Talk on the Steps by quoting Leo Frank’s words from Parade about feeling like an outsider as a Jew in the American South, and invited the audience to consider the different ways that all outsiders are positioned as Others for the purposes of political power and social regulation.
